Basalt Historical Society

The Basalt Regional Historical Society (BRHS) has archived interviews and photographs with the library.

Established in 2005, the BRHS explores the history of Basalt and its settlers through events, lectures and collections. Many of the photographs in this archive were scanned from original sources to ensure their preservation and availability. Interviews of long-time residents detailing their family and personal histories continue to provide context and perspective on our town.

Our history is intertwined with that of the Roaring Fork valley, especially the mid valley region. In the ancestral lands of the Ute people, immigrants from Europe settled this area in the mid-nineteenth century, and pursued mining, commerce, and agriculture. We honor and celebrate the contributions of all people who have made Basalt their home.

The BRHS is grateful to Janice Duroux, Diana Cordova-Elliott, Pauline Bowles, Bill Hegberg, and Henry Lee for their invaluable assistance in creating and maintaining this archive.
