Music Programming Coordinator

Posted June 2025

We’re excited to find someone that will bring their own ideas to the Basalt Regional Library Music Program. We’re looking for a creative and collaborative Music Programming Coordinator who loves music and libraries – someone who thrives on building community through music while also contributing to a strong, supportive library team.

About you:

  • You are a musician with a solid foundation in music appreciation and history. Recording or performance experience is a plus.
  • You believe music belongs in public libraries and you’re excited to help make that happen in creative ways that reflect and serve our diverse community.
  • You have experience producing events, managing performers, coordinating logistics, and emceeing concerts.
  • You’re organized, punctual, adaptable, and detail-oriented, with a knack for managing budgets and juggling multiple priorities.
  • You’re a team player who enjoys being part of a collaborative environment and contributing to shared library goals, not just music related tasks.
  • You have excellent customer service skills and a welcoming, service-minded attitude toward patrons of all ages and backgrounds.
  • You’re just as happy helping with a display, welcoming a patron, or pitching in on a busy day as you are curating a concert series.

About the Music Program:

  • The library hosts an esteemed monthly concert series, “Music at the Library,” featuring a variety of musical styles and genres. Performers include local, regional, and national musicians. Additional concerts are presented throughout the year.
  • Through a long-standing partnership with the Aspen Music Festival and School (AMFS), a five-week concert series featuring students and faculty perform at the library during the summer season.
  • A four-week children’s music and story time program, Tunes & Tales, is coordinated with the AMFS and presented during the summer vacation.
  • Educational opportunities are presented through partnerships with fellow presenting organizations throughout the valley (Jazz Aspen/Snowmass and TACAW for example)
  • Local and regional grants help sustain these programs.

About the position:

  • Pay: $27.00 per hour
  • You’ll be responsible for researching, selecting, contracting, and hosting musicians for our concert series.
  • You’ll produce all the concerts, ensuring divers, high-quality programming that fits within budget.

  • You’ll work closely with the Aspen Music Festival and Youth Services team to present a diversified and excellent summer series featuring up and coming professional musicians.
  • You will research and prepare the summer Tunes & Tales program in collaboration with the Youth Services department and Aspen Festival and School partners. This includes selecting appropriate story time materials, coordinating musical accompaniment, and transcribing music.
  • You’ll coordinate all logistics for performers, including travel support, Green Room setup, and receptions.
  • This position includes non-musical library duties as needed, and we’re looking for someone eager to contribute to the whole library’s success not just the music program.
  • Benefits include three weeks of Personal Time Off per year for sick time and vacation; 6 hours of holiday pay for seven holidays per year; employee health insurance including medical, vision, and dental coverage ($7,272 per year benefit); library match of 2% retirement contribution after one year, 3% after two years, 4% after three years, and 5% for four years and longer.

  • 4 hours of holiday pay for seven holidays per year
  • You will be eligible to participate in the employee benefits package, of which the BRLD pays medical, vision, and dental coverage ($8,436/year value)
  • Retirement plan and a 2% library match after one year, increasing to 5% after four years.

About the library:

  • The Basalt Library is the living room of its community and is beloved by the people who visit it. The library is known for its music events and its beautiful building. Behind the scenes, a work culture of collaboration, appreciation, and fun make this an amazing place to work.
